An AWS developer is being arrested for allegedly downloading and installing malware on his system.
The Irish Times reports that David McBride, an Irish-born developer, was arrested by gardaí on Saturday, April 13.
He faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison if found guilty.
The report says the arrest was prompted by a complaint made by a security researcher.
McBride was a customer of Amazon and it has been a long time since a major security incident was attributed to the service provider.
The arrest comes as Amazon is working to roll out a new cloud computing service in Ireland, with the intention of making the service easier to use for those working in IT and the hospitality industry.
Amazon is a cloud computing platform for businesses, which allows customers to work remotely and has also been a focus of the Irish Government’s Digital Strategy.
