How to attract and retain the best and brightest from overseas

Australian employers need to understand the global talent environment and recruit the best talent from across the globe, according to a new report.

It said Australia is on the brink of a new era of globalisation when it comes to attracting talent and keeping it there.

Australia is losing talented international talent from the US, China, Russia and elsewhere due to “a dearth of skilled global labour supply”, it said.

“We have a global talent shortage.

This has resulted in an inability to recruit from overseas,” the report said.”[The] global talent supply is increasingly fragmented.

The global talent market is a global one.

A large number of countries have no domestic talent supply to offer to Australia, and the only way to attract talented talent is through international employment opportunities.”

Australia has an underutilised workforce, with many of the skills required in the workplace being unavailable.

It found there are between 13,500 and 13,800 overseas workers working in Australia, with the vast majority of them being from the United States, China and India.”

It’s not just about a shortage of jobs.

There’s also a shortage in skills.

“The problem is we need to develop and implement strategies to attract the best, brightest from all around the globe.”

The report also highlighted that Australia’s global workforce is growing and the Government needs to develop a more skilled workforce to keep pace with demand.

“Global labour demand is expected to increase by 7.5 per cent annually over the course of the next 10 years, rising to 18.3 per cent by 2040,” the paper said.

That would mean that a growing number of jobs will be at risk of being outsourced.

“There is no shortage of labour in Australia,” the document said.

A national employment agency said the report was a “fantastic opportunity” to address the skills shortage.

“With a growing global workforce, we need more skilled workers,” the National Employment and Training Corporation’s chief executive, Matthew Smith, said.

The report recommends the Government make an investment of $1 billion over the coming years to improve skills in Australia and develop more of a workforce for overseas workers.

“To create a skilled workforce, there are three ways we can do that,” Mr Smith said.
