A man who made $300K in three months is now charged with embezzlement and fraud for selling his employer’s health care coverage

A man charged with stealing $300,000 from his employer after being fired is facing a $250,000 fine.

Travis McLean, a 30-year-old from Tennessee, was arrested on Aug. 15 on charges of fraud, theft and embezlement after he stole money from the employer of a nursing home employee he hired in October, according to an arrest affidavit.

The employee had a chronic lung condition that was causing him difficulty breathing.

On Aug. 29, the employee told McLean that he was getting sick and needed to go to the hospital.

McLean then left the home without telling him when he was going to go, and the employee called the hospital, authorities said.

Mclean’s employer, North Carolina-based Avera Healthcare, reported the employee missing on Aug 22.

Avera reported the missing employee on Aug 25, and a search of the employee’s home was conducted by the FBI.

Authorities arrested McLean on Aug 30.

On Sept. 6, McLean pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement and one count each of theft, embeasing, and fraud.

He was sentenced to one year of probation, $250 in fines and 200 hours of community service, and ordered to pay restitution of $15,000.
